A whirlwind of innovation and positivity, Thrive 2020 provided a non-stop barrage of uplifting moments that would have made even the most hardened misanthrope glad to be part of a species with such a promising future. With presentations on education reform, health and spirituality in a corporate world, advances in healthcare, grassroots mental health support organisations, and much else, Thrive provides a comprehensive blueprint for a better world. Impeccably organised. I felt like Will Farnaby arriving in Pala.

I was so happy to join the conference Thrive 2020! All inspiring stories and ideas to make Guernsey a better place to live. Better for young and old. The word “ connection” was much heard. It is important for us, for everybody to connect, to share, to like and to love. It was impressive how many ideas were spread, how many experience was shared with the same purpose: to realise the dream of happiness!

It was a privilege to speak at this year’s Thrive 2020 event alongside so many inspirational people who collectively demonstrated that we can work together to make Guernsey the happiest place in the world. It was fantastic to meet and hear so many people with such a growth mindset who see the solutions rather than the obstacles and I hope working together we can reach the goal. Thanks again for the opportunity.

I love the idea that Guernsey could set a model, for the rest of the word, for how to establish the conditions for happiness. The conference was wonderful. The hosts took terrific care of us. My wife came with me and we greatly enjoyed a couple of extra days vacationing on the Island.

Phil Clothier

Thrive 2020 was a profound experience. As a speaker I felt cared for and guided at every step, I also felt honoured to be on stage with such remarkable and powerful speakers. The event had a clear “Why” which connected us to the bigger picture and purpose, and at the other end of the scale, every detail was handled meticulously. I believe that ultimately this work is about a transformation to higher consciousness and love. That is exactly what I experienced at Thrive2020 – 2016.

Thrive 2020, well what can one say. You arrive to a wonderful island and wonderful people and get bowled over by the incredible range of speakers and organisation of the conference. It was awesome, inspiring and humbling to share the platform with such a learned group who really know their stuff and share their knowledge freely. I hope to be able to return soon to support the mental health first aid part of making Guernsey the happiest place on the earth to live!

I have been to many seminars and conferences over the years and there is no doubt in my mind that this was easily the best; hugely informative and inspirational. The organisation from months before to the guided tour the day after was flawless. The tone and mood, very skilfully set by Marc Winn, encouraged informal discussions and the talks themselves were of the highest quality. A wide range of subjects were explored by the speakers with passion, expertise and eloquence. Well done!

I felt truly honoured to be asked to speak at Thrive 2020 alongside a wealth of truly inspiring and extraordinary speakers. For me the most remarkable aspect of Thrive is the wide variety of speakers and the diverse range of connections that are forged. Many events focus on one field of learning, but Thrive is curated to include all areas that might help a community truly flourish. The unique opportunities for cross-pollination of ideas and experience, over just a few days creates a real melting pot of innovation. To be able to influence ideas and social change at a national level is both a privilege and a rare opportunity. What the Audience Said

Karen Marsh
Had a fantastic day , thank you to all the organising team . Great talks , in particular I loved men shed

Thank you for a wonderful, moving, inspiring and thought provoking experience. I was unable to attend in person but I watched the whole thing live on the youtube streaming which was such a privilege. I will look forward to seeing each of the talks again when they are uploaded as it was so much to take in. Wouldn’t it be great if the videos are viewed by thousands, raising awareness nationally and globally? And if publication of these events, and of you generally could somehow provide an income stream for the dandelion project – well that would be amazing!

Cathy Anderson

I thought the event was absolutely brilliant, from the truly inspiring speakers right down to the delicious food on offer all day! I have only heard positive feedback from my colleagues who also attended. I would definitely attend any future events organised by The Dandelion Project and would recommend them to others. Thank you!

Casey Foster

Positive thoughts and big hugs(!) to you for having the passion and determination to make Guernsey the happiest place on earth – you certainly have my support!

Sue Cotterill

Elizabeth Colwell

I found the day completely inspiring, I wish I had more time on my hands to put the energy into getting involved in getting some of the projects off the ground here in Guernsey.

Bridget Spinney

Thrive 2020 was a day all about being human, the frameworks and ideas we can create to be our best, overcome obstacles and support those around us. I enjoyed stepping away from the daily, self-imposed, pressures of delivering the hopes and expectations of my family, my colleagues, my clients and even myself. I’ll definitely see mental health as something to nuture in a way that I didn’t before. I’m sure that will have an impact on my life and hopefully others’. Imagine if everyone had been there!

Meriel Lenfestey

As I work in Mental Health services we had activities planned within the area that I work. As Thrive was held on World Mental Health Day it meant that I was unable to attend the whole day. Following the event I have been able to network with others to advance some services for people with a Mental Health services.

Graham Duerden

Thank you for a superb day. I was so glad my school were able to release me for the day to come. Incredibly thought provoking sessions both personally and professionally. Really well organised and well catered.

Phil Borges

The Thrive conference on mental health brought together individuals exploring new pathways to increase the mental health of their community. The enthusiastic and progressive organizers realize Guernsey is small enough to implement changes easily while having a large enough population (63,000) to track the effectiveness of those changes. It was a brilliant place to hold what turned out to be a very brilliant conference.

I do hope it bears fruit for you and the good people of your lovely little island. Sean Dagan Wood

Thrive 2020 offered a proactive and multifaceted look at how we can respond to the mental health crisis. A carefully curated conference, underpinned with vision, it put forward a range of expert voices proposing evidence-based, innovative and compassionate solutions. It showed that key to tackling the crisis is deeper, open-minded and joined-up thinking – and political policy to match – across fields such as psychology, appropriate medical intervention, drug policy, diet, cultural understanding, education, media and technology.

I must admit to being a touch sceptical as to the possibility of ‘change occurring by having coffee’. How wrong I was! The conference proved this to me. It was inspirational, engaging and momentum producing. A deep bow of gratitude to all involved.

Dr James V Hardt

Thrive 2020 was a fantastic event. Jayne, Jock and Marc were superb hosts, making sure that all the speakers were incredibly well taken care of and kept informed. In addition, the cast of speakers was broad and deep and the speakers covered even controversial topics with aplomb and grace. I learned a lot at Thrive 2020 and I met many wonderful people, launching new friendships and new relationships with both attendees and with other speakers. As one of the local projects it was fantastic to be given the platform alongside so many fantastic speakers and to share in a day that was positive, future focused and evidenced based. I got so much out of it and I believe it provided everyone attending with a real understanding of the interconnected nature of communities and how we must all work to tackle problems and find solutions together.

Thrive 2020 was a remarkable event and far more than the sum of its parts, bringing together diverse and compelling evidence-based presentations to tackle the incidence of mental health problems within our community. So often it was apparent that the simplest ideas and actions, often drawing upon age-old practices and wisdom, held significant opportunities for our future. I look forward to seeing how these ripples spread through the community.

What the Audience Said

In Thrive 2020 we had access to world-class speakers who are normally not available without travelling extensively. It was such a success that we have started a dialogue with one of the speakers. We are very hopeful of the results. Thank you for laying on Thrive 2020.

Although I have been following the Dandelion Project on social media this was the first event I had attended, I was exceptionally impressed. From the calibre and diversity of the speakers, international and local, to the networking opportunities, to the professionalism of the day, a first-class event that left you thinking outside the box and with many thoughts to ponder!
