Rosie and the Channel Swim
Rosie is a Guernsey girl who, earlier this year, became the youngest Guernsey person to swim the English Channel. She works at the Youth Commission as a senior youth worker with responsibility for emotional health and wellbeing at the Guernsey Youth Commission. Rosie’s story about completing the Channel Swim in less than thirteen hours is an uplifting, inspirational story. It required determination and resilience from Rosie but she is keen to stress that, although it seems a lonely, personal journey, its success reflected many of Guernsey’s top qualities: lots of support from family, friends and the wider community; a wonderful sea swimming environment and a big slice of stubborn determination.
Rosie was never a top island swimmer in her youth but her success in swimming the Channel shows that a positive mindset and lots of hard work can work wonders.
